Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council
Oldham Council set up an employee car share database in September 2005 as part of their Staff Travel Plan. Since there are plenty of Council staff who are concerned for their surrounding environment and even more who would like to save some money on petrol and parking, car sharing is the perfect solution!
To make the option even more attractive Oldham Council offers an Emergency Ride Home scheme, so staff don't have to sleep over at the office if their partner gets called away. They are also entitled to the underground priority car parking spaces, allowing them to go straight to their office without searching for a parking space or worrying about the weather! As an added bonus, all staff who are registered get entered into a monthly prize draw for shopping vouchers.
What have they got to lose? They save money on parking / petrol, get a closer (and drier) parking space, make a new friend and have an excuse to go shopping if they win the monthly prize draw! In the first 5 months of the scheme there have been 43 members sign up & 42% of them have found a match - What a great start to a successful scheme!
